Intensive Treatment

Modeled after the STAR Center approach and following the extensive research of Lucy Jane Miller Ph D, OTR and Sarah Schoen PhD, OTR of the SPD Foundation, Great Kids Place offers intensive OT Treatment Programs. This option is designed to be a burst of consecutive treatment sessions followed by breaks. Families are seen 3-5 days a week for 20-30 sessions (approximately 4-6 weeks).

Parents participate in the sessions as well as parent meetings every 5 sessions. The goal is for parents to gain the knowledge and practice to support their child with sensory motor challenges. Parents learn frameworks to guide them through trouble shooting when a challenging situation arises in daily life. These frameworks empower parents to come up with their own strategies and routines as the needs of their children change. Frameworks support parents for the long term, as opposed to a standard provided list of strategies that need to be changed by the therapist. Families complete intensive programs with the tools to change their daily life experiences for the better.

Our philosophy

Play is the occupation of children. As kids grow, it is through play that they develop their motor and sensory processing and integration skills. At Great Kids Place, in our state of the art sensory gym, we use play to optimize engagement and participation in occupational therapy sessions to work on the development of sensory, fine motor, gross motor, core strength, motor coordination, motor planning, visual and handwriting skills.
